On 30th July, Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei of the Embassy of China in Myanmar hosted a reception at Novotel Hotel in Yangon to celebrate the 91st anniversary of founding anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
Lt. General Than Tun Oo, Lt. General Tun Tun Naung and Lt. General MyoZaw Thein from Commander-in-Chief (Army) and their wives, Commander of Yangon Command Major General Thet Pon and wife and many other high ranking military personnel, military attachés, ambassadors and invited guests attended the reception.
Speaking at the event, the Embassy’s Military Attaché Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei said that China pursues a defensive national defense policy and actively participates in international affairs.
Military Attaché, Chinese Embassy in Myanmar, Senior Colonel Xiong Shaowei said “China and Myanmar share mountains and waters and have been enjoying Paukphaw brotherhood relations since many years ago. No matter how the international situation changes, the friendly relations and active cooperation between two countries and two armies have been enhanced stronger and stronger continuously. It is great pleasure for us to see that cooperation in various fields has been strengthening with new improvements in the passing year.”
He also assured that at the meeting with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in November 2017 President Xi Jinping highly complimented China-Myanmar military ties as at their best period in history and vowed to support stronger military exchanges and cooperation in various areas, encouraging the two armed forces to work more for the growth of bilateral ties as well as regional peace and stability.
The PLA is the world’s largest military force with a strength of nearly 2.3 million personnel. It consists of five professional service branches: the Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force and the Strategic Support Force.
