7 September 2018

With the aims to increase the production of melon and the income of farmers by reducing the agricultural expenses, MoU on collective procurement of agricultural input with the supplier partner organizations was signed on Friday.

The MoU was signed between Myanmar Melon Producer and Exporter Association (MPEA), and four suppliers.

This is the first time collaboration of MPEA with the supplier partners.

Chairman, Myanmar Melon Producer and Exporter Association (MPEA), Naing Win said “As we signed MoU with the suppliers, the farmers can get the agricultural input with low price as well as the high quality agricultural products through supplier partners. We would encourage the collective system among the farmers to increase the production of melon. Then, we will try to expand the international market.”

The farmers also believe to be successful implementation with the supports of supplier partners’ organizations.

Farmer, Htee Gyaint Tsp. (Sagaing Region), Khin Maung Tint said “We mainly grow melon and export it to China. Previously, we need to pay high price for the agricultural input and now we can reduce the expenses through MoU. We can also make more profits due to the collective system.”

10 farmers from Sagaing, Mandalay and Bago Regions have been selected to work under the MoU.
