Back Home: 11 Myanmar Fishermen Brought Back From India

11 Myanmar fishermen have been brought back home from India on 9 September. They were detained at the Open Distress Camps in India for trespassing into the territorial waters of India.

The fishermen arrived back from Port Blair to Yangon International Airport on Sunday evening after they were verified as Myanmar citizens. Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Ministry of Home Affairs welcomed them at the airport and provided with assistance.

Arrangements were also made to send them back to their homes. It is learnt that 272 fishermen were brought back to Myanmar from Port Blair in 2016, 133 in 2017 and 44 from January to September this year.
