Bail denied for Australian filmmaker James Ricketson accused of spying by Cambodia

30 January 2018

Cambodia's Supreme Court denied bail for Australian filmmaker James Ricketson today. Ricketson was arrested in June last year after he flew a drone over a campaign rally for the Cambodian National Rescue Party. He was accused of spying for a foreign state then. After six days of detention, he was charged with the offence of "endangering national defence". If convicted under Cambodia's espionage and treason laws, the filmmaker could be imprisoned for up to 10 years.
