A deadly earthquake hits Indonesia's Lombok

30 July 2018

A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the popular tourist island of Lombok in Indonesia on Sunday. It killed 14 people and injured 162 people. It also damaged thousands of houses.

Many villagers fled from their beds into the open fields to avoid the collapsing buildings. Over a hundred subsequent tremors were recorded, with the largest aftershock recorded at 5.7 magnitude, Indonesia's Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics Agency said. The earthquake was on land and did not trigger any waves or tsunami.
