Efforts For Economy: Forum On Myanmar Transitional Economy

25 September 2017

A forum on Myanmar transitional economy took place in Yangon on Sunday.

May Kha Hostel Foundation organized it to raise public awareness on the current ground situations in the industry.

Experts pointed out the current rules and regulations need to be reconsidered to be applicable to players.

Patron, May Kha Hostel Foundation, Zaw Than said “We’d discuss challenges of public-private partnership, difference of income and whether the current trade policies and systems are balanced. New law, rules and regulations have been enacted but needs to be reconsidered to be applicable.  There are a lot of barriers remained. We need to strengthen soft infrastructure sector, like logistics and systems.”

Industry players and experts call for stability and also urged the officials to accelerate the growth of special economic zones.

Patron, May Kha Hostel Foundation, Dr. Myint San said “To develop economy, we need stability in currency exchanges, bank interest rates and politics. We are now able to export raw materials to India and China mainly. So, we not only need to diversify the products, but we also need to get more markets.  We need infrastructure development in industries and government’s support for development of special economic zones. People and civil society organizations also need to work together for the development of the country’s economy.”

Such an economic forum like this is set to be organized in Mawlamyaing next month, the foundation said.
