Film Festival: International Films On Independence Movement Screened In Yangon

4 January 2018

The international film festival for independence movement was held at Myanmar Motion Picture organization cinema in Yangon, Wednesday.

It aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Myanmar Independence Day.

This is the very first film festival jointly organized by Myanmar Motion Picture Organization and Hang IL Foundation of Korea.

The films will reflect the background history of independence in both countries.

Patron of MMPO Kyi Soe Tun said "Everyone cherishes the independence so we fought for our freedom in the colonial period. Korea had the same story with Myanmar. The film festival aims to reflect the struggle for independence and we welcome the Myanmar independence day also. This is not only the event but also we can exchange each culture."

Five films will be screened at the cinema including two Korea films, and each for Myanmar, Vietnam and Ireland.

Chairman of Hang IL Foundation for Visual History & Education Jason Lee said "One of the films has the background of struggling for the independence in Korea. Myanmar films were being screened at the Korean Independence Day celebration in 2016 in Korea. So this is the time for exchanging knowledge and the films with background history for independence struggle. So, we hold this festival before the independence day."

The independence movement international film festival will run from 3rd to 5th January at Myanmar Motion Picture Organization Cinema.
