Freed Dapchi schoolgirls fly to capital Abuja

22 March 2018

Scores of Nigerian schoolgirls freed by Islamist Boko Haram militants returned their home yesterday. The girls were captured a month ago. The militants abruptly set them freed without giving a reason.

They kidnapped 110 girls aged 11-19 on Feb. 19. Several of the girls said some of their friends had died in captivity and one was still being held. The Nigerian Information Minister said no ransom had been paid as the militants had breached an agreement to not carry out abductions while negotiations for a total cessation of hostility were ongoing.
