19 January 2018

The Ministry of Health and Sport organized the handover ceremony in Yangon for establishment of blood bank at Buthitaung Township Hospital in Rakhine State on January 19th.

In the final report of the Rakhine Advisory Commission led by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan submitted in August last year, the necessity of blood bank in Rakhine State was emphasized to improve the healthcare environment.

With the donation of the equipment from two Japanese companies, JICA provides blood preservation refrigerator, cooler bag and centrifuge. For the stable electricity supply and operation, JICA also provides solar home system, autoclave and thermostat chambers.

This support to Rakhine State was mentioned during the meeting with President U Htin Kyaw and the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in December last year at UHC Forum in Tokyo as part of the package for the Japan’s support to Rakhine State including electricity, road and school buildings.

This will enhance the implementation of the Rakhine Advisory Commission report, and contribute to the improvement of the healthcare service delivery to the people in Rakhine State.
