High Level Meeting: Preventing Against Recruiting Minors

High Level Meeting between the Committee for Prevention against Recruiting Minors and UN Country Task Force on Monitoring and Reporting (CTFMR) Heads of Mission took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Committee Union Minister for Defence Lt-General Sein Win gave an opening speech. He said that Tatmadaw is fully cooperating with the CTFMR by abiding by the facts included in the Plan of Action and Agreed Procedure.

He added that Tatmadaw is a member Geneva Convention 1949, and follows the descriptions included in the Convention. He reiterated that arrangements have been done to teach the lessons on Children and Armed Conflict – CAAC at the training schools.

UN Resident Coordinator Joint Chairman of CTFMR Mr. Knut Ostby also made a speech. The meeting later discussed the plans to be implemented. Myanmar and CTFMR have signed the Plan of Action on 27th January 2012, and from that day to February this year, 877 minors have been returned to their parents systematically. Myanmar also signed Paris Commitments and Paris Principles in February 2017, and is following it.
