Independence Day: Observance In Nay Pyi Taw

In order to commemorate the regaining independence in 1948, the 70th anniversary of Independence day was celebrated at the people’s square of Nay Pyi Taw City Hall on Thursday.

Vice President U Myint Swe read out the message sent by President U Htin Kyaw at the event.

The state flag was hoisted at 4:20 am in the morning.

National unity is fundamental for safeguarding country’s independence and five national objectives of the 70th anniversary of Independence day needs to be implemented by all nationalities in unity, the President urged the people through his message read by the Vice-President at the event.

Union Ministers, high ranking officials, departmental officials, military officers, and officials from Nay Pyi Taw Council, ethnic groups, service personnel and people attended the ceremony.

Peace in the country is essential for preserving the country’s independence, young people are urged to cooperate in building peace, one of the attendees, member of Constitutional Tribunal U Kyaw San said.

Member of Constitutional Tribunal Kyaw San said "In order to preserve the country’s independence, we need to build peace in the country. In addition, national unity is essential for that. As the country’s leaders and partners are trying to have peace in the country, young people need to join and cooperate with them."

Independence is very important for safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, the country's Independence needs to be preserved together with unity, the Director General of Consumer Affairs Department said.

Director General of Consumer Affairs Department Hla Maw said "The independence was regained by sacrificing many lives in 70 years ago. So all the people in the country have the responsibility to preserve the independence in unity."

The Independence Day is the significant day in Myanmar. The celebration to mark the independence day was celebrated across the country.
