The Indoor Rowing Competition was organized by Yangon Universities Boat Club in Yangon Sunday. It aims to promote the indoor rowing sport and to select players for the international competition.
With the support of Myanmar rowing and canoeing federation, the indoor rowing competition took place at Yangon Universities Boat Club.
The teams competed in 500 m and 1000 m races over the two days of competition. The winning best players would be trained by the coaches to let them to compete in the ASEAN University Games.
Officer In-charge, Indoor Rowing Competition (ASEAN university games), Tint Wai said “Today competition targets to born the best players for the upcoming international competition which will be held in December. We organized this competition to know the athletes’ skills and fulfill their necessity in the future.”
There are 158 athletes from 12 Universities were participated in two categories for rowing and traditional boat race.
Captain, Dagon University Dragon Boat Team, Aung kyaw Myint said “The traditional boat that we called dragon boat is very impressive sport for me. It needs team work. We got first prize last year. So we keep aiming to reach the first place this year.”
Most of the athletes will be undergoing the camp training for ASEAN University games (AUG), which is a biennial sports events with the participation of athletes from Universities of ASEAN member countries.
Captain, Yangon University Boat Club, Kyaw Htet Aung said “I have international experiences in Varsity boat race in Malaysia. And we are trying to ready for the ASEAN University games. We also trained for it too. Today competition is very helpful for the athletes to improve our skills and strength.”
The camp training will start from March to September. Myanmar will host the 19th ASEAN University games from 8 to 17th December of this year.
