Literature Festival: 2-Day Activity For Children Held In Yangon

Children Literature Festival was held at No.1 Basic Education High School in InnSein Township of Yangon Region on Thursday.

Yangon Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein attended the opening ceremony of the festival which is jointly organized by the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Education and the Yangon Region Government.

The festival aims to nurture children's intelligence, creativity, verbal skill and love of literature.

Education Officer, Northern District Education Department, Aye Thandar Chit said “As the students are the national treasure for the future of our country, for them to be please in the literature, I want them to have not only reading habit but also the power of creativity and speech. In this 2 days festival, they will nurture the habit of reading.”

The festival is open to all the government schools and private schools of the 8 townships in the northern district of Yangon. There are many fun activities and 28 books stalls for children to look around.

Staff Officer, Information and Public Relations Department, Aye Aye Khaing said “This children literature festival will help to improve the intelligence and creativity of children and will let them have fun. Instead of doing the school works all the time, to have their mind improved, we have fun activities such as storytelling and reading for them to participate.”

There were 5 types of contest- story-telling, poem-reciting, impromptu talk, coloring and painting for the children to participate. A total of 40 awards will be presented to the winners.

Student, BEHS (2), Hmawbi Township, Linn Htet Moe said “I thought it's really great to have this festival. We, most of the youth, don't read much these days but by holding this kind of festival, this will make them interested in reading and nurture the habit of it.”

Over 700 schools including 84 private schools in Yangon Region are participating in this two-day festival.
