Mexican university students protest after outbreak of campus violence

14 September 2018

Thousands of university students from Mexico City's acclaimed UNAM university marched on the capital on Thursday  to demand greater security after a recent outbreak of violence on campus. Thursday's march came on the 50th anniversary of the 1968 student massacre when soldiers fired on protesting university students, killing hundreds.

A recent spate of violence has now rocked university students in the country. Earlier this month, a group of thugs entered UNAM campus grounds and attacked students. In the throes of a drug war, Mexican students have also been touched by violence across the country.
