Militant-linked charities protest against Pakistan's planned takeover

3 January 2018

Hundreds of demonstrators supporting charities linked to Islamist leader Hafiz Saeed staged a protest yesterday. It was staged against Pakistan's plans to seize control of the organisations.

Pakistan's civilian government detailed its plans for the takeover of Saeed's two charities. During the protest, the leaders of the two charities defended their work and rejected the government's move. They vowed to keep the organisations up and running.
