North Korean athletes arrive in South Korea for Paralympics

7 March 2018

North Korean athletes and four officials arrived in South Korea today  ahead of the opening of the Pyeongchang Paralympics Winter Games. For the first time in the Paralympics history, North Korea has sent a 24-member delegation to take part in the games. The delegation and the athletes arrived a day after North and South Korea announced they will hold their first summit in more than a decade in late April. South Korea sees Pyongyang's participation in the Games as key to lowering tensions on the peninsula. This will  possibly lead to diplomatic negotiations over the North's nuclear program.
