President U Win Myint and wife Daw Cho Cho were present at a merit sharing ceremony held for the benefit of national leader Bogyoke Aung San and his colleagues who sacrificed their lives for the country at Zabuthiri Hall in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Office at 10 am on 19 July.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union U Myo Nyunt and wife Daw Htay Yi, Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein and wife Daw Aye Thida, Deputy Commander in Chief of Defence Ser- vices and Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe, Union Ministers, Union Attorney General, Union Auditor General, Chairman of Union Civil Service Board, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, chairman of Anti-Corruption committee, Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, Deputy Ministers, deputy attorney general, Nay Pyi Taw Council Members and their wives, invited guests and responsible officials.
All those present at the ceremony received the Five Precepts from the Sayadaws and listened to the Metta Sutta recited by the Sayadaws, and offered offertories to the monks.
Firstly, President U Win Myint and wife Daw Cho Cho paid homage to the Buddha image and offered “soon”, fruits, flowers, water and candle lights.
The president and wife and congregation observed five precepts from Maha Visutarama Zaygone Monastery Sayadaw and listened to the Paritta Suttas recited by the members of Sanghas. Then, the president U Win Myint and wife Daw Cho Cho presented offertories to the presiding Sayadaw of Maha Visutarama Zaygone Monastery.
Next, the Chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union U Myo Nyunt and wife Daw Htay Yi, Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein and wife, Daw Aye Thida and Deputy Commander in Chief of Defence Services and Commander in Chief (Army) Vice Senior General Soe Win, Union Minister Lt-General Sein Win, Lt-General Ye Aung, U Kyaw Tint Swe, Dr Aung Thu, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Myo Aung and their wives provided offertories to the Sanghas.
.After listening to sermons delivered by the presiding Sayadaw, President and wife and those present at the ceremony shared merits gained with the fallen martyrs.
At 10:37 Am, the president and wife and the congregation observed 2 minutes of silence to pay tribute to the martyrs.
After the ceremony, the President and wife and the guests offered “soon” to the members of Sangha.
