17 July 2018

Peru has arrested more than 50 people as part of an anti drug-trafficking operation in a province near the border with Colombia.

The majority of those arrested were Colombians. Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra said Peru's police and military coordinated with Colombia's military to carry out the operation early on Monday (July 16). Vizcarra also said a 60-day state of emergency had been declared in Putumayo in the northern Amazonia region of Loreto.
