14 September 2017

Plastic Forum of ASEAN and Asia level was held in Yangon on Thursday.

2nd Council Meeting of the 17th Term ASEAN Federation of plastic Industries (2016-2018) and 27th ASIA plastics Forum 2017 will discuss the matters on plastic related economy, environmental conservation from plastic waste and issue related with marine littering.

Myanmar still has little chance to suffer the impact from plastic usage as the consumption of plastic in Myanmar is still low comparing with other ASEAN member countries.

But the prevention needs to be done for that, Secretary General of Myanmar Plastic Industries Association said.

Secretary General, Myanmar Plastic Industries Association, Dr. Htin Kyaw said “We couldn’t keep away from the plastic in our daily life. So we must find the way to tackle the impact of it. To save the environment, we must do plastic disposal systematically. We have to give awareness to the public to throw the rubbish to the bin and the government should provide the bins at every places.”

Most of the plastic industries in Myanmar are small and medium enterprises.

So Myanmar supposes to get business opportunities thorough the forum as it aims to link the plastic industries among the member countries, Joint Secretary of Myanmar Plastic Industries Association pointed out.

Joint Secretary, Myanmar Plastic Industries Association, Kyaw Min said “We will present about the challenges and current situation of the plastic industries in Myanmar. We could cooperate with plastic processors and manufactures from other countries to improve the plastic industries in Myanmar. We will implement the outcomes from the forum in cooperating with them.”

The forum will take for 3 days until Friday.

The delegates from Thailand, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Vietnam and USA participated in it.
