Gems & Jewellery Entrepreneurs Association on Tuesday held a press conference on preparations for Yangon International Gems and Jewelry fair.
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation and with the support of the association, the fair will be held from the 11th to the 14th of January at Lotte Hotel in Yangon. The fair is to bring a market for international buyers and to promote the local market.
Joint Treasurer, Gems & Jewellery Entrepreneurs Association, Nyunt Nyunt Khine said “China and Bangkok have large gems and jewellery markets for international buyers. Here, we have gems but there is no market for those buyers. The upcoming fair is to bring such a market. International buyers want the uncut gems as they think our jewellery designs are not modern. The fair will be a rare opportunity for the buyers. I think we have to focus on design in the future.”
To attract international buyers as well, many gems organizations will participate in the fair with 100 booths for diamond, jade, pearl, sapphire, ruby and another 100 types.
