Sacred Hair Relic: To Be Placed At Nan Oo Prayers’ Hall For Public Reverence

22 February 2018

Buddha’s first sacred hair relic at Botahtaung Pagoda will be put at Nan Oo Prayers’ Hall of the Pagoda for public reverence.

It was decided by 47 members of Sayadaws from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee on Wednesday. The Pagoda Board of Trustees first planned to convey the relic to 42 townships of Yangon Region in the first week of March.

The Sayadaws gave Ovada for the procession saying that the Buddha’s sacred hair relic has been over 2600 years, and there may be damages to the relic because of the long days of procession and distances of each township in Yangon Region. They also stressed on the security concern, and said the sacred hair relic should be placed at Nan Oo Prayers’ Hall of Botahtaung Pagoda for the public Reverence.

After receiving the Ovada from the Sayadaws, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and Party, officials from Board of Trustees and well-wishers donated offertories to the venerable Sayadaws.

It's learnt that the Diamond-bud, Jeweled-vane and ornamental Umbrella will be repaired with approximately 67.5 kilogram of gold by an expert group of Jewelry, with the support of the Regional Government, Board of Trustees and well wishers.

The new Diamond-bud, Jeweled-vane and ornamental Umbrella will be placed atop the pagoda on the full moon day of Kasone.
