Students, teachers protest for greater funding in austerity-stricken Argentina

Thousands of students and their teachers marched on downtown Buenos Aires on Thursday to demand more funding in public education. Protesters are calling for more public funds to be dedicated to education in the country. They have rejected a government proposal to boost funding by 15 percent.

The government of President has announced cuts in public spending, including in education, to stabilise the troubled Argentine economy. Onerous borrowing costs combined with the government spending cuts and a drought that crippled Argentina's agricultural sector this year have slammed the economy.
