Supermarkets and bakeries looted in Venezuela

9 January 2018

Venezuelan authorities said yesterday there are a number of arrests in southern Bolivar state following a string of lootings. Five shops were looted over the weekend.

But the exact number of arrests is still unknown. Critics blame President Nicolas Maduro and the ruling Socialist Party for Venezuela's economic mess. The government says it is the victim of an "economic war" by political opponents and right-wing foreign powers.
