Support For Sports: 45th States And Regions Track & Field Open Tournament In Nay Pyi Taw

The 45th States and Regions Track and Field Annual Open Tournament was held from 8th to 11st January, at Wanna Theikdi Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw.

The annual tournament organized by the Ministry of Health and Sports and the Myanmar Track and Field Federation, invited the athletes from States and Regions including Nay Pyi Taw council area.

It is aims to turn out the new generation outstanding athletes from States and Regions as well as to nurture the talented athletes to compete in regional and international competitions. 

Secretary General, Myanmar Track and Field Federation, Thein Than Naing said “The sports events include 23 events for men and 22 for women such as marathon, various distance races, sprints, long and high jumping, hurdles and relays discus, javelin throws, hammer and shot put. The Ministry and Federation provided for the accommodation and allowance. The athletes tried a lot and I hope to get the best players. We will train the athletes to compete in the Olympic games, Asia and Southeast Asia level competitions. “

More than 300 athletes from 15 teams of States and Regions including Nay Pyi Taw council area participated in 45 sports categories in this tournament.

In the 26 miles marathon event, Saw Kin Shin from Bago Region grabbed the gold medal with the standing record of 2hours, 49 minutes and 46 seconds.

Gold Medalist, 26 miles Marathon, Saw Kin Shin said “I competed in 2016 tournament but got just only in 4 ranks. I trained a lot for this year. The trainers trained very well to all of us. This is the first gold medal for me. I am trying to compete in the international level competition. I would like to urge other marathon athletes to train regularly as practice make perfect.”

This year reached the highest record of players participation compare with the previous years. The junior athletes also joined for the national team.

Gold Medalist, 400-meter hurdling, Nan Myint Aye Thin said “I am from Thaninthayi Region. I am very interested in track and field sports in middle school level. I competed in my township level and got first prize. So, I was selected to compete in this competition. I got one gold and one silver medal in track and field event and relay race event. I want to be a Myanmar selection athlete and have a desire to compete in the international event.”

Mandalay Region team stood the first place in the Tournament. The Ministry and the Federation presented gold, silver and bronze medals as well as presented the trophies for the best men and women athletes and the best men and women teams.
