Swimmers near Dunkirk brave icy waters in New Year celebration

2 January 2018

Near France's northern port city of Dunkirk, hundreds of swimmers dressed in colourful costumes braved the icy waters of the English Channel yesterday. It is a traditional New Year's Day dip in nine-degree Celsius water. As a reward, participants receive a hot bowl of classic French onion soup to warm them up, as well as a certificate for first-timers.
