Thousands of Croatians celebrate World Cup victory

8 July 2018

Around 15,000 fans were thrown into delirium in Zagreb's main square on Saturday after Croatia beat Russia in their World Cup quarter-final. Croatia had ended Russia's World Cup dream in a dramatic fashion, after the two sides were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes, and 2-2 after extra time, to finally prevail 4-2 on penalties. Barcelona's Ivan Rakitic stroked home the winning penalty in the fifth series to launch nationwide celebrations. Croatia will now face England on July 11 at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, with France and Belgium playing the other semi-final the day before.
