UN lowers flag to half-staff to remember Annan

The United Nations lowered its flag to half-staff at its world headquarters on Saturday after the passing of former Secretary General and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Kofi Annan. He died on Saturday at the age of 80 after decades of championing efforts to try to end protracted conflicts in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Annan died in hospital in Switzerland in the early hours.In Geneva, the Kofi Annan Foundation announced his peaceful death after a short undisclosed illness with "immense sadness".
