The lower Myanmar MPT University Football Tournament 2018 entered the 2nd day on Monday at the University football ground in Yangon.
Students from universities and colleges of the lower Myanmar are participating in this 12-day tournament. The tournament aims to foster football talents in preparations for the upcoming 2018 ASEAN University Games Myanmar is hosting and for the Myanmar National University Champion league. It’s also to highlight the importance of a healthy lifestyle through sports, bringing good health practices to future generations.
Staff Officer, Sports Department (Pathein University), San Naing said “This tournament is a great opportunity for all students aged between 18 and 28. Also, this is a brilliant way for them to socialize with each other and to create friendship. And, they can get experiences for the upcoming 19th ASEAN University Games.”
8 men teams and 6 women teams from 8 zones are participating. 3 winner teams from this tournament will play against the 3 winner teams from the Upper Myanmar Tournament for the best 4 teams. The best 4 teams will play in Yangon for the best 2 teams for the national level championship match.
Player, Pathein Zone, Ye Yint Aung said “I am so nervous even though I trained a lot. I think I can get experience from this tournament. Now, we are playing against Sittwe Zone. We will focus and try our best.”
As a primary mission of conducting a fair match, the tournament is in line with rules laid down for the international games.
Player, Sittwe Zone, Kyaw Myo Win said “This is my first experience playing against players from other universities. We got only a few days to train but we will try our best.”
The Upper Myanmar University Football Tournament 2018 Men and Women will be held on the 2nd of June in Mandalay. The 2018 ASEAN University Games, officially known as the 19th ASEAN University Games, will be held in Myanmar from the 8th to the 19th of December.
