Myanmar Rowers grabbed five gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Dragon Boat Championship competition.
2018 Asian Dragon Boat Championship competition took place in Chinese Taipei from May 5th- 8th.
14 men and women altogether 28 athletes participated in the competition, together with the athletes from Asian countries, Japan, India, Taipei, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Macau and Hong Kong.
Myanmar teams competed in the men, women, and mixed 200m and 500 m races over the four days of competition.
Chief Coach, Myanmar Rowing & Canoeing Federation, Win Pe said "It’s very tired for our athletes as we have to compete in four consecutive days. They don’t have much time to rest. We encountered many great competitors, like Thailand, Indonesia and Philippine."
This participation is the trial to test the ability of the athletes for upcoming Asian Olympic, and the federation added their confidence on the great performance.
President, Myanmar Rowing & Canoeing Federation, Thaung Htike Min said "This is the greatest result for us. And this competition is the trial for our athletes to test for the upcoming Asian Olympic that will be held at Indonesia in August. Based on the experiences from this competition, I can assure our team will win many medals in upcoming Asian Olympic."
Gold medals winner, Saw Moe Aung also shared his confidence on the upcoming competition and what needs to prepare more.
Athlete, Saw Moe Aung said "Through this competition, I learn a lot. Although we won, we won with a split second. So I think we need to train a lot for the upcoming Asian Olympic including our strength. I hope more success for our sport in the future."
Myanmar team was welcomed by the federation members at the Yangon International Airport on Wednesday.
