Wildfire in central Portugal kills at least 62

19 June 2017

A devastating wildfire in Portugal has killed at least 62 people and injured at least 50. Fire departments said that at present around 500 firefighters with 160 fire engines are still trying to bring the fire under control. Most of the victims were locals who were killed as they tried to escape in their vehicles. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, reports say that the hot, dry and windy weather has helped to spread the fire quickly. Portuguese President has arrived in the area to oversee the disaster relief work.
