Zimbabwe soldiers, armored vehicles on Harare streets after military says it seized power

15 November 2017

Zimbabwe's military said it has seized power today. Zimbabwean soldiers and armoured vehicles blocked roads to the main government offices, parliament and the courts in the capital. But they gave assurances the 93-year-old President Robert Mugabe and his family were "safe and sound". They seized the state broadcaster after the president's ruling party accused the head of the military of treason. They also detained the Minister of Finance yesterday.
