The forest fires that have raged in southern Chile since Thursday have caused the deaths of 24 people and the destruction of 800 homes, officials said on Sunday, as international aid begins to arrive in the country. There are 260 fires burning in the South American nation, of which 148 are already under control. In addition, 10 people were detained for their possible connection to the origin of the fires. Argentina committed itself to sending brigade members.

The Spanish government announced the departure of an Air Force plane with 50 military personnel from the Military Emergency Unit and state-of-the-art equipment, including drones, as part of the aid to combat the Chile fires.
