Apple Inc. is shifting the manufacturing of its new high-end desktop computer Mac Pro from the United States to China, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Friday. Citing insiders, the report says that Apple has entrusted the high-end production of desktop Mac Pro to a Chinese OEM, which has expanded the scale of the production at a factory near Shanghai.

The journal quoted insiders as saying that the Chinese OEM enjoys close relationship with Apple's other suppliers in Asia and it may much lower the cost to move the production line to China instead of hauling parts and accessories to the United States for assembly. The journal says that a spokesman of Apple claimed that the new version of Mac Pro was designed in America and the assembly is merely part of the manufacturing process.
