China: Virus hospitalizations peaked in January

China's National Health Commission said the number of coronavirus patients with severe symptoms in hospital inpatient departments had peaked in early January. Guo Yanhong, who heads the Commission's Department of Medical Emergency Response, told that the number of severe coronavirus patients peaked on 5 January and that the number had dropped 44.3% from the peak by 17 January.

The number of visits to fever clinics and emergency departments also appeared to have also peaked nationwide and services for non-COVID-19 patients appeared to recover at outpatient clinics. Last week, China reported nearly 60,000 deaths in people who had COVID-19 since early December.
