Contribution Works: Shwe Kyin monastery renovations completed 75%

The renovation works of Maha Dhami Karama Shwe Kyin Monastery is completed 75% so far.

It was built by King Mindon in 1222 ME and now being the popular tour attraction site located at the foot of Mandalay Hill in Mandalay region.

The building, comprised with 262 teak-pillars, and it was used as the venue for Fifth Buddhist Synod.

Maintaining the original designs, well-wishers from Thailand makes efforts into renovations to this ancient monastery in every detail for four years already.

Presiding Sayadaw, Maha Dhammi Karama Shwekyin Monastery, Venerable Buddhanta Htuti Wara said "As usual in teak monasteries from Yadanabon era, it consists of four chambers, namely, Pyathat-saung, Sanusaung, Zetawun-saung, and Bawga-saung. It is now being over 160-year old. Amid preservations, there are many damages like inclined parts and dropped objects by environmental impacts. Experts from Thailand address to conduct renovation works while visiting and observing around the monastery. So, now we gave permission to renovate without damaging the original structures. The experts and team take responsibility for all renovation works and its costs."

Decorated with Myanmar traditional culture, the ancient Shwe Kyin Monastery attracts most of the tourists who come to Mandalay region. It is also famous for not only ancient culture and architecture, but also the residing monks adhere to the Vinaya disciplinary rules. So, the experts are trying their best to make renovations carefully only in the necessary parts which are severely damaged.

Presiding Sayadaw, Maha Dhammi Karama Shwekyin Monastery, Venerable Buddhanta Htuti Wara said "It is going to be upright 262 teak-pillars, floors to be repaired, and roofs for three chambers is successfully renovated, which means the upper parts are about to complete when it is done for Pyathat saung also. No seeping ahead when rain is coming. They are trying and focusing on very details not to lose the style of Myanmar artworks and handicrafts of Yadanabon Era. Around 75% completed and cent percent is estimated in a year or one and a half years. I’m delighted to seeing their charitable works with good intensions pursuing the merit. I’d say Well-Done."

Diamond bud and vane conveyed on 25th June from Thailand to Myanmar are also going to be offered atop nine-tiered teak building of the monastery after renovation works are completed.
