Chinese scientists used drones to collect atmospheric samples at different heights of Mount Qomolangma for the first time as part of the recent scientific expedition on the world's highest peak. To help with the accurate estimation of the terrestrial carbon sink on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, scientists under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, formed a greenhouse gas concentration observation and carbon sink inversion team to conduct the drone experiment.

The team collected samples at the Qomolangma Station, 4,276 meters above sea level. During the three-day activity, the team collected 60 samples in 13 drone flights, with a maximum hovering height of 820 meters.
