Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday that the Japanese side must engage in full coordination with stakeholders and put in place a long-term monitoring arrangement as soon as possible to avoid irrevocable consequences stemming from the ocean discharge of Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water.

He made the remarks while commenting on Japan’s sixth round of release of nuclear-contaminated wastewater from the crippled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the Pacific Ocean which started on Friday. As planned, this round of discharge will last until June 4, and dump about 7,800 tons of nuclear-contaminated water into the Pacific Ocean.
