Chinese cities gripped by a persistent round of extremely high temperatures have taken multiple measures to protect outdoor workers against the heatwave and ensure a stable water supply during the scorching season.

Tianjin Municipality in north China continued to issue a red alert for heatwave on Saturday, which is the highest warning in the country's three-tier color-coded temperature warning system. The tourist city has ushered in a new round of visitor peak this week with the arrival of the annual Dragon Boat Festival.

Local urban management authorities have shortened the working hours of outdoor city operation support personnel to ensure their safety during the hot and busy three-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday. Medicines for heatstroke prevention have also been provided to outdoor workers.
