Hindus celebrate Thaipusam festival under restrictions

Hindus in Malaysia celebrated the festival called thaipusam on Tuesday, with devotees making their way up the temple's 272 steps to fulfil vows and perform prayers.

The yearly festival was held with strict restrictions include a reduction in the number of participants and the not allowing children to participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions Devotees are also required to follow local virus procedures, which mandate full vaccination and temperature checks.

Many devotees are glad that they were allowed to celebrate the festival despite restrictions. In the years predating the pandemic, hundreds of thousands of devotees would have trekked uphill into Malaysia's most sacred Hindu cave for a bedazzling pilgrimage of penance and piety.
