Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako have visited two towns in Ishikawa Prefecture; Anamizu and Noto that were badly hit by the New Year’s Day earthquake. The Emperor and Empress visited a public facility in the center of Anamizu town where 46 people are still sheltering. They then traveled by helicopter to Noto Town.
In the town’s Shiromaru district, the tsunami triggered by the quake flooded a wide area, damaged and sweeping away some houses. At evacuation centers in both Anamizu and Noto, the couple met with firefighters and healthcare officials who have been involved in the disaster response efforts, and thanked them for their work.
