A man was pulled alive from debris on Sunday after part of a mountain glacier broke in India, sending a massive flood of water and debris slamming into two dams. The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) rescued 12 people who were working on a construction project in a tunnel at the Dhauliganga hydropower plant.

At least nine people were killed and 140 missing. The flood was caused when part of Nanda Devi glacier broke off in Tapovan area of the northern state of Uttarakhand on Sunday morning.  The Rishiganga hydropower plant was destroyed, while the Dhauliganga hydropower plant was damaged. Both are on the Alaknanda River, which flows from the Himalayan mountains to the Ganges River.
