Int’l Day of Older Persons: Int’l Day of Older Persons observed in Nay Pyi Taw

The International Day of Older Persons was observed at Mingalarthiri Hotel, Nay Pyi Taw on 1st October and the Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win gave an opening speech.

In his opening speech, the Union Minister said that the international day of older persons have been observing since 1999 with the gesture of acknowledging the older persons’ contribution to the society as well as they are still beneficial and contributing to the society.

It’s been 25 years that the international day of older persons is being observed in Myanmar. The theme for the year set by the United Nations is “Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons Across Generations”.

In the honoring the International Day of Older Persons, as the previous years, the oldest man and woman in Myanmar will be provided with one million Kyats each through the respective regions/states. This year’s ceremony, the older persons from 3 Homes for the Ages in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area will be provided with medicines and personal items.

Next, a video clip on the activities of the care for the older persons and the rights of those was screened and a woman older person expressed words of thanks on behalf of the elderly people.
