Myanmar Tourism Industry: Tourist arrival increased at 78% in 2022

The total number of foreign tourists arrived in Myanmar was over 233,000 in 2022 and increased at 78% than year 2021. Most of the arrivals come from China and other Asia countries including Thailand, India, Korea and Japan.

Zayar Myo Aung, Deputy Director General, Directorate of Hotels and Tourism said "Myanmar has been able to control COVID-19 disease and restrictions have been eased since 2021. Since April 2022, Myanmar has allowed to operate international airlines and online Visa applications.  Also visa exemptions have been granted for ASEAN members’ countries and Russia. We cooperated with local and world tourism organizations to promote the tourism industry of Myanmar. In Myanmar, there were about 85% of tourists from neighboring and Asian countries, 3% of tourists from Europe, North America and 6% of tourists from Western Europe and other 3 % from Russia and Eastern European countries."

In Myanmar, the main travel attraction places for tourists are Yangon, Mandalay, Pyin Oo Lwin and Bagan as well as the coastal areas such as Chaung Thar, Ngwe Saung and Ngapali beaches.
