The Bagan, Mrauk U, and Pyu Archaeological zones as well as the Bagoand Sri Ksetra Archaeological zones will be opened for the public during Thingyan period and the Museums will be temporarily closed from 9th to 17th April, according to an official of Department of Archaeology & National Museum.

AungAungKyaw, Director, Dept. Archaeology& National Museum, said " The museums of the Archaeological zones will be closed temporarily during the Thingyan holidays. Mandalay and Bagan Archaeological zones are the most destination sites among the visitors. In 2017-2018, over 400,000 foreign visitors visited in archaeology zones. Admission is free for local visitors to the zone. We also expect that the number of visitors will increase this year because the airlines have been resuming their operations. We’d like to invite the people to pay a visit ancient cultural sites during Thingyan period while study the traditional cultural heritages."

The official of the Department of Archaeology and National Museum said that they are planning to enlist Myanmar traditional Thingyan Festival in the World Intangible Cultural Heritage list. It is also arranged the festival to submit as the multi-national ICH in cooperation with Mekong region countries where the Thingyan New Year water festivals are held.
