PM confirms delayed launch of digital wallet scheme

Prime Minister of Thailand Srettha Thavisin confirmed a delay to the launch of the “digital wallet” scheme, but no cancellation, adding that he wants to receive official recommendations from the national anti-graft body first.

Deputy Finance Minister also admitted that the scheme, originally set for May, will be postponed so the government can consider all information involved. The government is seeking the issuance of a bill to authorize the borrowing of Bt500 billion to fund the scheme, despite the fact that, during the May general election campaign, the Pheu Thai party promised to use the national budget, not a loan, to support the scheme.
