Ponce, in Southern Puerto Rico, was one of the towns badly hit by Hurricane Fiona. Heavy rains washed out roads and houses, leaving neighborhoods isolated without water and electricity. More than half a million people in Puerto Rico remained without water service after Hurricane Fiona. |The Hurricane poured about 60 cm of rain in some areas of Puerto Rico before blasting across the eastern Dominican Republic and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Power company officials initially said it would take a few days for electricity to be restored saying they faced numerous obstacles. Meanwhile, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared a public health emergency in Puerto Rico and deployed a couple of teams to the island.
