Promoting Investment: 4th Myanmar Insight Seminar 2019 To Be Organized In Bangkok

The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon in collaboration with Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM) will organize the 4th edition of Myanmar Insight Seminar 2019 on 23rd August at Centara Grand Hotel and Convention Centre Central World in Bangkok in order to promote trade and investment between Thailand and Myanmar.

A Press Conference for this event took place at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon on 25th of July.The seminar aims to provide the insight information to business people in Thailand who are keen to invest and expand their businesses in Myanmar. It will also be a platform for Myanmar’s policy makers to share updated information on economic policies, laws and regulations related to foreign investment. For Thai businessmen in Myanmar, the seminar will support to share their experiences and success stories, so that prospective Thai investors can be well-prepared and inspired to enter into the Myanmar market.

Ambassador of Thailand, Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, H.E. Mrs. SuphatraSrimaitreephithak said “The Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon has the responsibility to promote all aspects of relations between Myanmar and Thailand and Economic ties including trade, investment, exchange of exports you know to promote the economic development in Myanmar would fall into our responsibilities...We have the office of commercial counselor that the Royal Thai Embassy and also we have what we call the business information centre with the Royal Thai Embassy here. So, this information provided by the Royal Thai Embassy would be very useful for the establishment of business contexts which lead the ways to the investment and other economic activities between the two countries...”

Vice President, Thai Business Association of Myanmar, Mr. NattawinPhongsphetrarat said “We are taking these opportunities of organizing Myanmar Insight 2019 to promote the opportunities of the business development in Myanmar so that the Thai and Foreign Investors can come and explore and we understand that the past six months that Myanmar Government has launched a lot of key economic policies to drive in terms of Foreign Direct Investment so that we are hoping that we will be able to create more awareness and getting more foreign investors especially Thai to come and invest to Myanmar. So, we hope to create more jobs, we hope to do more collaboration between the two countries and we hope to have the people of two countries to be more prosperous.”

The key discussion topics at this year’s seminar will include Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan, Project Bank, the opportunities in retail and wholesale sector, the opportunities in expanding the manufacturing in Myanmar, the updates on Myanmar tax reform and Myanmar monetary policy.

Acting Director General, Directorate of Investment and Company Administration, Thant Sin Lwin said “I've heard that there are a lot of discussion topics such as Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan, Project Bank, the opportunities in retail and wholesale sector, the opportunities in expanding the manufacturing in Myanmar, the updates on Myanmar tax reform and Myanmar monetary policy included at the seminar. Respective officials from each department will attend the seminar. I hope this business seminar will be beneficial for the development of promoting investment and trade in Myanmar.”

 Ambassador of Thailand, Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon, H.E. Mrs. SuphatraSrimaitreephithak said “The Government of Myanmar is doing very well they launched the Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan and one goal is dedicated to the opening up for investment...this is all about opening up of the country. In the meantime the Hluttaw the parliament constitutes to amend a lot of laws concerning the economic activities in the country. So with the strategy in place MSDP together with the amendment of some important laws we think that more opportunities will be open up with transparency. So, these opportunities and transparencies will be conducive to an environment for business to happen.”

It’s also learned that the business seminar will be addressed by H.E. Mr. Thaung Tun, Union Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations on “Investment Opportunities in Myanmar for Thai Investors” and by H.E. Dr. Supachai Panitchakdi, Former Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development and former Director-General of World Trade Organization on “Doing Business for Responsibility.”
