Response for Natural Disaster: Wind Disaster Prevention Management Plan launched

The launching ceremony of the wind disaster prevention management plan was conducted at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Friday in the presence of Union Minister Dr. Soe Win.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that the Ministry began the preparation measures starting from 2016-2017 fiscal year, in order to minimize damages to people's homes, caused by strong winds,. The preparation measures are being carried out in Kachin andShan States,Sagaing,Magway Region,Mandalay,Tanintharyi, Bago and Ayeyawaddy Regions during 5 years period till 2020-2021 fiscal year.

Also, the expansion works were continued in Mon and Rakhine States in 2021-2022 and Kayin and Chin States as well in 2022-2023 fiscal year in addition to the previously implemented Regions and States. The Union Minister stressed on the maintenance of 19,540 houses in 9 Regions and States with the use of more than 945 million kyats of funds.

He urged Region/State head Offices to work with special emphasis in cooperation with its relevant departments,social organizations and local residents. Later, the officials reported on the preparedness measures for the disaster prevention and the Union Minister coordinated the needs in response to the reports.

It is learnt that the Ministry is implementing the disaster prevention measures for more than 55,000 houses in 12 Regions and States with more than 1.7 billion kyats of funds for 7 years from 2016-2017 to 2022-2023 fiscal year. In 2023-2024, measures will be undertaken for 19,540 houses in 9 Regions and States funded by more than 945 million kyats.
