Summit opens amid debate over social media regulations in Brazil

The Rio 2024 Web Summit opens with a focus on the future of AI and the role of technology in addressing climate change. The mega tech expo takes place at a time of debate over the regulation of social networks in the country.
Craig Becker, Officer, Web Summit Chief Events said "45% of startup founders are women this year. It's the highest proportion of women founders we've had in any start at any Web summit event. And it's more than double the proportion of women founders of Web Summit Rio 2023. Total number of attendees: 34,397, which is almost a 60% increase on last year."
Web Summit events manager highlighted that at this year's summit, the number of women startup founders increased by 60 percent over last year. The summit is being conducted from April 15th to 18th in Rio de Janeiro.
