While the country celebrates the significant traditional Thingyan Festival, terrorists have committed destructive acts, aiming to cause panic among the public by launching attacks on residential areas. They utilized drop bombs, heavy weapons, short-range missiles, and improvised mines.
On April 14th, terrorists launched eleven 107 mm short-range missiles at PyinOoLwin in Mandalay Region, resulting in explosions at the Orthopaedic Ward of People’s Hospital, Aung Myay Zeya Monastery, a Luxury Hotel, No.5 Ward, Bala Min Htin Ward, and Sabae Ward.
The explosions claimed the lives of two monks and two civilians, with 12 others injured. Necessary healthcare services were provided to the injured persons.
Leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun responded that the attack was launched by NUG and PDF terrorists with the support of some Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs).
Leader, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, SAC Information Team said "This kind of short-range missiles used are available only in the hands of EAOs. They have been modified to shoot longer distances than previous models and can launch simultaneously. Based on the use of weapons, it is confirmed that the attack was committed by NUG and PDF. EAOs are behind the attack, especially the KIA and TNLA are perpetrating the attack."
The Maj-Gen stressed that efforts are being made to gain control over the important places along border areas according to the defence and security measures.
The launching of attacks on residential areas violates the Geneva Convention, and it can be deemed a war crime according to international law. Tight security measures are in place to effectively address the perpetrators. Locals are called upon to cooperate with security forces by providing information on terrorists.
